So for awhile, we have been tossing around the idea of a couple of technological purchases. So this year with our Christmas money, Jim and I decided to take the plunge and spoil ourselves a bit. So I was after a television for upstairs for when Callie starts watching tv and when the kids are playing xbox and I'd like to watch television.
Jim decided he wanted a blu ray player and a surround system for downstairs (it drives him nuts that I turn it up SOOO loud so I can hear every word in a movie, he thought surround sound might help that issue).
So we didn't want to go over our Christmas money so we have been looking through the Black Friday ads. In the midst of talking about it, we realized that my mom really wanted a new tv as well. It turned out that Best buy had the best deals for what we wanted. So Jim was prepared to go stand in line outside only to find out that the particular items we wanted would all be offered Thanksgiving day on bestbuy.com. We figured we would give it a try!
So our adventure began...we thought that thanksgiving day would start at midnight on Thursday morning so Jim and I stayed up until then. We had both computers ready to go to try to snag the deals! Jim happened on earlier in the day to see that they had already released the blue ray home theater deal so he snagged that in the early evening!
At midnight, we saw that best buy announced that people could go to sleep, they wouldn't be releasing their deals until early morning. The problem is, they didn't say what time early morning. So we went to bed and Jim set the alarm for three and checked their status every half hour. Just before 5 he woke me up to say that he was pretty certain, it would be five am. So I watched the facebook/twitter page for an update and Jim kept refreshing the sight. Well, about 8 minutes before they updated their statuses, Jim noticed things were available for purchase. So he threw the tv for my mom and the one I wanted into his cart to check out!
We were a little giddy to think we might get both of them without going outside! Except when we got to the check out, it said the tv I wanted was out of stock. I was rather bummed, but we went ahead and checked out with the one for my mom. I could wait for another deal. We couldn't believe that in a matter of seconds, best buy was already sold out.

My mom's tv!

My mom's tv!
As were looking at people's comments on facebook, it became kind of clear that there was technical difficulty because no one was able to get the tv I wanted. People started posting similiar deals that weren't advertised earlier, but were offered online from target, newegg, walmart, and various other places because they were so mad that it didn't work. The one at walmart was the same price (just LCD instead of LED) so we went ahead and ordered that one. I figured I could always return it if I didn't like it.
We finally went to bed about six am. When we got up at 9 (we kept Callie up so we could sleep in a little and it worked), we checked facebook and saw that Best buy made an announcement that the tv we wanted was now available for purchase at 8:30! It was gone by 9, obviously!
Anyway, we still thought it was pretty good deal to not to have to leave house and on all three items, we saved around 400.00 from the cheapest prices we had seen the last couple of weeks. So all in all, it was a pretty successful Black Thursday! My television came today!!!! I think it is a good size for upstairs. I might have liked a little bigger, but I was happy not to spend anymore than my Christmas money.
