UNI Panther Basketball versus the Iowa Hawks!

Jim's boss has season panther basketball tickets. Last night, the Panthers were playing the Iowa Hawkeyes and Jim's boss was not planning on going to the game. He was really nice to give the tickets to Jim to use. We invited some friends of ours that are Hawkeye and Panther fans to join us.

Wow! It was way more fun than I expected. We had lots of conversations ahead of time being that we live in Cedar Falls, but are also Hawkeye fans. The consensus was for this night that we should root for the home team. I figured I should cheer for the panthers espescially since I am a graduate of UNI! Although, I have never been to a panther basketball game. I am not really sure why, but all through college I never attended one. Plus the Mcleod center wasn't there when I went to school.

Here we are at the game. My friend Mel has a very good ability to take self group portraits apparently! We had great seats. Although the McLeod center is small enough that I don't really think there are bad seats..
Here is a picture of the student section. I was completely unprepared for the fan base that the panther basketball team has. Wow! They were highly entertaining with all of their antics. The crowd was really into this game. PLus UNI had a lot of entertaining fun things going on during time outs, commercial breaks, and half time. Not to mention Iowa brought their cheer squad and Herky as well!
I thought this was funny. They have this little blimp that flies around inside the building. Funny!
It was a good game, pretty close. There were a few calls that were maybe questionable. I think the refs were calling a bit too much. Anyway, the Iowa coach got VERY upset about it. After two technicals for him (and one for one of his players), the coach got kick out of the game. He wouldn't leave, though, so the police came out and escorted him out. Oh my! Someone else who attended the game and had a different vantage point said that the ref that kicked out the Iowa coach told him to go take a shower! It was something!
The team spirit between the Hawkeyes and the panthers was really good. Herky and the panther goofed around a lot together and were really fun. All of the cheerleaders were entertaining as well with their pyramids and such!

During half time, they had a chinese acrobat perform. She was really good. She kept kicking bowls from her feet onto her head while riding this tall unicycle (and she did it all to music)!
Anyway, we had a really good time at the game. The Panthers won (Iowa played well too), the crowd was really into it, and we enjoyed great friends! We definitely think we'd like to go again sometime. I am not sure if it is always like that or if was more hyped because they were playing Iowa. We definitely think the boys would enjoy it as well so we will have to take them if we get another chance to go!
