It was the first weekend of all of our sporting events. My mom came up to join in the fun. Luckily I am off this weekend so we could try to transition slowly into the craziness. It was a pretty good day. A little chilly, but fun none the less!
We started the morning with a football game. Kyle got two or three flags. He seemed to always be in the action when the play was going so you could tell he was reading the plays well. He missed the one pass that got sent to him on offense, but you can't win them all. His buddy from school got a touchdown so they were pretty excited about that!
Then this afternoon, we had soccer games. Both Kyle and Conner's games were at the same time so Jim went with the Conner (since he is the coach and all) and I went with Kyle. My mom went with Jim so she could see each of the boys play something this weekend.
Kyle was quite relieved not to be wearing purple this year! It was a pretty good day for both! Jim had a good experience coaching his first soccer game and despite Conner's lack of natural ability, he managed to score a goal in his first ever soccer game. He and Daddy were both quite proud about it!!!!
Kyle's game was a little more interesting. After last year where we had a bit more of an intense coach that really pushed the boys to run plays, be in the right position and play soccer, this was a little different. We have lots of younger boys who haven't played in U10 before so they aren't sure how to play and our coach is much more laid back. Despite that, I was really proud of Kyle. He played well, was in the right place at the right time, and managed to score a goal even though he was often the only one going to the net. I am hopeful that as the season goes on, they'll all improve. Their coach has genuine care for the boys. You can tell they really like him. You can't really ask more than that!
I do have to confess to getting in trouble with Kyle for being that mom yelling too much on the sidelines. At one point, he looks over at me and does the throat slashing action. He told me that I had to learn to be more quiet or he would have someone record the game and I could watch at home!!!! I suppose it won't be the last time, but I'll work on it. Funny how sports can bring that out in us. Also, last year, our parent section were loud cheerers so I think you get used to that too!
