Remodel Day Two

After church, lunch and a little nap, we decided to go ahead and make the next biggest change to the kitchen, the removal of the soffit. It ended up being a bit frustrating because we own the right tools to do everything we needed to, but Jim has done so much around at other places in the last couple of years, that his tools are rather disorganized!

We had kind of hoped to be able to get drywall at the end of this week, but we need to do a few more things yet this week. Jim still needs to install the door and a couple of small items.  We also need a some time to ponder whether we want to move the lights in the ceiling or leave them as is. Since we have guys coming to drywall, we have to decide before they come!

So with all that is going on this week and next, we will probably wait until after Easter for the next step in this crazy process.

Thought I should take one last picture of the it...
The drywall gone on one side.
The mess and it was a mess to say the least...
This is our kitchen set up for the next few weeks.  It feels so odd. It does help the closet not seem quite so overwhelming.  We worked together on the pennisula on our disney countdown project when we finished and it was nice to not worry about hitting your head.

Jim will build a little shelf for under that one cabinet that is too short to help in blend in.

Here is what it looks like now when you stand by the fridge.  I am sure the feel will change again when the closet is no longer see thru, when the lights potentially move around, when their are cupboards above the desk and when the pennisula becomes an island.

I think this is going to take some getting used to after nine years of the other way....
