Custer State Park

Sorry I am so slow about getting pictures of the trip posted! It has been a busy week catching up, adjusting back to life, and celebrating Conner's birthday.  Plus I am trying to get pictures uploaded to shutterfly etc. I am only current on scrapbooks for Kyle, but I am two years behind on Conner (although I am about half done with getting him caught up) and Callie plus I have two vacations that I have yet to make a photo book of...

After going to Mount Rushmore on our first full day, we drove through Custer State Park. This was really neat. The scenery was amazing (the road was scary in some places) and the animals were out in force.  It was very much enjoyed. Callie, unfortunately, slept through most of it, but she doesn't know that and we won't tell her so it is o.k!

The pictures really don't do justice to the amazing scenery throughout the first and last parts of the park.  It truly is amazing, but this is the best i could...

Callie did wake up towards the end of the trip (after the buffalo. :( ) and had to go potty. Our original plan was to take a little portable potty in the van and she could go when she needed to. Well, we had a rental car so this was the solution. She just went potty in the trunk on the side of the road as people drove by. We blocked her as best as we could, but must admit...it just made us laugh!!!

This was the highlight of Custer Park for the kids.  There were three really big size herds of bison and they get pretty close to your car. At one point, we were surrounded and just had to sit and wait until they decided to move!

Sometimes they just walk along the middle of the road too!!!
We also saw burros who will totally put their head in your window if you brough some fruit like an apple to feed them. Also several small herd of goats. They were pronged goats or something like that so they looked more like a deer/goat than a goat!

This scenic tour was only like 47 miles, but with all of the stops, curvy/windy roads, and wildlife in the way, it took us almost 5 hours to drive through the park.  It was really cool, but we were pretty happy to get back to the motorhome that night (we did have to drive to Custer City after this to get a look at the car and figure out what to do too) so that added another hour to that 5 hours!
