When I went to get Callie out of bed, she had diaherra in her pull-up. She wasn't very happy about that, but my guess is that I didn't get her out in time to get to the potty. Just as we were getting ready to go to the sitter's house and work, Callie threw up on my bathroom floor. Uh Oh! At first, I thought maybe she had too much candy yesterday, but as the day went on I noticed she was running a slight temp so the candy might have contributed, but was not the cause.
Just this week, someone was telling me how their daughter was almost potty trained and then she got sick and they had a huge relapse. I thought OH NO!
Little Miss Callie has had diaherra all day long, but to my great joy, she made it to the potty every single time. Even better after her nap today, she decided she wanted to use the big potty and did so with ease (with a potty seat on it)! I was celebrating cleaning out the potty chair after diaherra versus diapers, but the big potty was just plain awesome!!!!
It is unbelievable to say, but while we need to keep encouraging her and we have steps to go, I would say that this little experiment has been successful. I have a little list of things we have to conquer yet:
- Using a public potty. I bought one of those fold up seats since I didn't think she'd like to go with me holding onto her. She did sit on it in a public restroom this week, but she didn't actually go. Today's progress of using the big potty at home gives me more confidence that we will get there!
- Long Outing. We haven't done a long outing with Callie just short trips here and there so we need to tackle that.
- Church. We haven't taken Callie to church and left her in the nursery yet (atleast they have a little potty). Grandma leads a nursery time this weekend so we can take her knowing she can have a friendly face for that adventure. Knowing Callie, they won't be able to get her out of that bathroom once she goes in.
- Rec Center. I am wanting to go back to exercise class. I took off during this journey, but they don't have little potties, they have to walk across the hallway to the adult bathroom, and with a stranger. She can't get on the potty herself so I am very unsure about this one. Hopefully, I take can take her before class and then since it is only an hour, she can hold it and go after.
The most surprising part of this journey has been the bonding that has happened between Callie and I. I would never have called Callie a momma's girl. She loves so many people and happily socializes with them. However, after this week of so much focused together time and tackling this little project together, Callie is extremely attached to me. She stays pretty much right beside me or on me all day. If someone leaves, she immediately asks me if I am staying home. Not that she won't go with Daddy, Granny (as she calls the Grandmas), or Mel, but there is definitely a much stronger attachment and connection to mom.
I don't know if there is truth to the statement or not, but in this Trunnell household girls are DEFINITELY easier to train than boys!
