Yesterday, my baby boy turned 10 years old. I can't say exactly why, but I found that to be unnerving. I wouldn't say it caused tears, but I definitely felt a little sad about it. Something about double digits, being over halfway to 18, and knowing how the teenage years go, I felt like some of the best had passed. I suddenly realized that I might be one of those teary eyed moms when he graduates from high school!
None the less, we had a grand day celebrating this milestone. The day started with a spin on our traditional pan"cake" breakfast. This year, Jim made the pancakes rainbow colored in addition to the sprinkles.
Then we headed to church and had lunch at home. After that, we hosted a laser tag party for Kyle. We don't usually do a lot of things like this, but I felt so emotional about this birthday that I wanted to make it extra special.
WOW! Laser tag was a hit with all of the boys and an extremely easy party for me (since the guy in charge organized stuff)!
Probably one of the coolest thing about the party was to see Kyle's choice in friends. Jim and I were so proud that the boys he felt the closest too and wanted to celebrate with were such nice young men. In fact, the laser tag employee told me that this was the best group of boys he had all week. Some of the boys we knew really well, but there were a few we didn't. Even though there were four different schools represented, the boys were so accepting of each other. They obeyed the rules and had so much fun! Honestly, it was so much fun just to watch them all so thrilled about it!!!!
It actually looked quite festive!
Kyle knew that since we were doing a big party that he had to have Mommy cake (not a store bought decorated cake). Transformer cake seemed overwhelming to me, but I found these transformer picks for cupcakes and Kyle said that would be fine.
I borrowed a cake stand from Jim's mom and so that made it look more impressive!
Happy Birthday to you!
We finished the night by walking over to Old Chicago with Jim's parents and a couple of friends of ours whose boys came to the party. We all enjoyed fellowship and pizza. Jim and I were just so pleased with what a wonderful day it was, how well Kyle handled himself in welcoming and thanking his friends and how nice all of the boys were. Plus, we were so thankful to have such great friends and grandparents to celebrate this milestone with as well!
We are blessed beyond measure to have Kyle in our family. God is working in him and we are so proud of the young man he is becoming. He is an amazing big brother, amazing son, and joy to spend time with. Apparently, I am still a little emotional about him turning 10 yet...gosh how will I survive 18?
